Disaster Services, AmeriCorps: Saving the Day: How a Volunteer 400 Miles Away Helped Recruit 2800 Volunteers for Super Storm Sandy Recovery


During the chaotic first days and weeks of Super Storm Sandy recovery, a volunteer working from 400 miles away helped to "save the day." The collaboration between the Western NY Regional Volunteer Center in Buffalo and the Long Island Volunteer Center helped recruit an army of volunteers, some of whom are still helping today. This "disaster buddy" model is being translated across the state.
