Education, AmeriCorps - Faith In Youth
GSM places AmeriCorps members at various faith-based sites for after-school programs. Members act as the bridge between churches and middle schools to coordinate resources in the church to meet the needs of at-risk middle school students. Members also develop programs and recruit, train, and support caring adult volunteers in relationships with youth. The goal is to improve academic achievement and promote a sense of well-being in participants.
The FIY Partnership has increased the impact of developmental assets in youth through community engagement opportunities in partnership with Neighborhood Connections. Neighborhood Connections is an initiative developed by GSM that builds strong neighborhoods using Asset-Based Community Development. Neighborhood Connections utilizes the talents and assets within local neighborhoods to improve quality of life for all residents. Residents living in strong neighborhoods experience less transience, greater community attachment and economic growth which lead to youth with more developmental assets.
